Design Alchemy” is inspired by the juxtaposition between

‘soft’ and ‘hard’ organic matter found in nature. This

collection is driven by sustainability specifically the act of

repurposing. Undertaking a deep understanding for fabric

manipulation between different materials and dyeing

techniques to form this collection’s concepts.

This collections experiments with contrasting material

concepts that traditionally wouldn’t be used together.

Such as bodices sculptures made of hard material with 3-

D printing are contrasted between gauze and draped

skirts. Including layers of torn pieces of fabric, soft

malleable neoprene for shapeless forms, and chunky yarn

against light weight flowing fabrics.

For the garment actualization I chose denim as the

material to repurpose, using different and all components

of thrifted jeans such as the overlocked seams as the

collar of the dress. The garment consisted of 7 jeans and

is adorned with decorative shibori muslin flowers dyed

with indigo.
